This is a time of significant distress, and we’re being expected to deal with it without some of our favorite (and most effective) coping strategies. No socializing! No going out to eat or grabbing drinks with friends! Shopping? Not at Nike or the Apple Store. Your gym closed. Your spa appointment got canceled. Your favorite sporting events are no longer happening. The world is upside down!
COVID19 has officially thrown all of our worlds off-kilter. Whether you’ve got kids at home for the foreseeable future, whether your income has been affected, or whether you’re unable to get basic supplies you need (ahem, toilet paper), we’re all facing a new normal and feeling its impacts. As we ride out the news cycle and shift towards accepting this new normal, how can we cope in the days, weeks and maybe even months ahead?
With the outbreak of COVID-19, Olympic Community of Health’s purpose statement resonates on a whole different level: “Tackling health issues that no single county or Tribe can tackle alone.”
Collaboration, innovation, and teamwork are pillars upon which our work relies. In these urgent and frenzied times, we are invited to continue leaning on these pillars to collectively support our communities, those in most need, and those providing care.
We started our company in 2009, right after the massive crash of 2008, which taught me a great deal. For one: run lean. I saw dozens of businesses go under, mainly due to aggressive expansion and overextending themselves. Now, we’re tightening our belt and running lean again, as everything unfolds. We want to make only critical purchases and rely on cash, not credit.
First, the coronavirus rocked the financial markets. Then, oil prices dropped more than 20 percent after a breakdown in OPEC production discussions. Not surprisingly, the markets took another nosedive. Yet, despite these events, this recent market volatility may well be attributed more to fear than the forces that usually drive the markets.
We are living in a strange time. Every time I turn on the radio, open FaceBook, click on the news app on my phone… the first thing I hear is about the coronavirus.
Suddenly, everything has to do with the effects of this virus which no human has ever encountered before.
Here at Vibe, the health and safety of our members is our top priority—today and every day. Like you, we are monitoring the coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak closely. We are using updates from the Kitsap Public Health District and the US Center for Disease Control (CDC)’s interim guidance to businesses for preventing workplace exposures and illness from Coronavirus to implement a number of precautionary measures that support continued health and wellness, while also supporting emergency business continuity and contingency planning that may include an expansion of remote work policies.
Just a few short weeks have gone by since the curtains went down on Kitsap’s very first TEDx event, led not by the adults, but by the youth of our community. As the Bainbridge Island Museum of Art auditorium cleared that afternoon, 90+ people lucky enough to attend in person left feeling inspired, hopeful and full of ideas worth spreading across their schools, workplaces, places of worship, sports teams and more.
Described as the ‘uber of meeting spaces’, fully private, tech-enabled meeting and offsite space will soon be available in Kitsap with the click of a button.
Last week’s Zero proof: Uncovering the potential of the booze-free drinking boom at Vibe Coworks was the ultimate #sobernotboring pre-funk to National Mocktail Week. Bringing together the most unlikely of voices to talk about something that’s been overlooked for far too long—the utter dearth of delicious, sophisticated drink options sans alcohol—Zero Proof was an open dialogue on the very leadership, innovation and cultural disruption that defines the community and entrepreneurial culture at Vibe.
With the help of Poulsbo City Mayor Becky Erickson, the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce and nearly 300 other special guests, the Vibe Coworks Grand Opening Party was more than a just another ribbon cutting: it was a legit celebration of our move into The Centennial and all of the hard work, triumphs and shared achievements that have gotten us to where we are today.
