A collection of prints from Julianna North
Julianna North’s first solo exhibit showcases a powerful collection of new work that brings visibility to underrepresented athletes in outdoor leisure and sports. The exhibit shines a light on the experiences of individuals often overlooked in the outdoor industry, focusing on the challenges of finding gear that fits and feeling excluded from spaces typically designed for a specific body type. Through her art, Julianna tells the stories of those who navigate the outdoors with perseverance and resilience, including a scene of a woman buying used climbing shoes at a garage sale to afford a new rope.
The exhibit explores the often overlooked struggles of finding gear that fits both physically and financially, with an emphasis on promoting inclusivity. Julianna’s work invites viewers to see themselves in the outdoors and encourages the message that everyone belongs, no matter their shape, size, or gender.
About Julianna North
Julianna North has always been told she was artistic, but that statement was often followed by the suggestion that she could never truly be an artist. For much of her life, she internalized this negativity. However, in 2019, she began painting mountain scapes on thermoses, which eventually led her to create femme forms on canvases. This journey brought her to Wayzgoose, and now she finds herself printing femme forms in the outdoors.
Around the same time she rediscovered her passion for art, Julianna also began mountain biking. For her, the two activities are deeply connected, as both involve a sense of adventure and a mindset of, “Well, let’s see what happens.”
